Kavanagh Group presents Cube for Hospice

Following the success of last year’s hospice campaign by the staff of Kavanaghs SV in raising €60k for Mayo Roscommon Hospice, this year’s campaign is gathering momentum with almost €70k raised to date. The overall target to raise €100k is specifically to buy the site for the foundations new specialist palliative care unit in Castlebar. On Friday November 1, the Kavanagh Group head office team are organising The Cube for Hospice, based on the popular TV game-show.

Hospice events

A race night in aid of local hospice/palliative care services will take place in the Failte Bar, Claremorris, on Friday October 25 commencing with a barbecue from 6.30pm to 8.30pm followed by music with the Ceide Boys from 7pm to 9pm. First race will take place at 9pm with an auction race at the end of the night and fantastic prizes to be won, and spot prizes throughout the night. There will be prizes for best dressed lady and best dressed gent.

Opening of town centre gate to Westport House

Westport House will hold an Open Day kicked off by a special ribbon cutting celebration to mark the opening of their new town centre gate and ticket office at 1pm on October 20.

Byrne bursts to victory again

John Byrne of Mayo AC underlined his winning form with another brilliant victory in the Athlone Flatline Half Marathon on Saturday. Byrne led 939 finishers home in 71:39, 14 seconds quicker than his national half marathon time last month, and over a minute clear of the field led by Peter Mooney of the Marathon Club of Ireland.

These walks will bring people of all ages and from all walks of life together to remember that special someone and celebrate his/her life by walking in his/her memory. Tidy Towns competition

SuperValu retailers in Mayo are calling on the county to get behind this year’s SuperValu TidyTowns competition. Last year there were 37 entries from Mayo with Westport winning the overall county award, in addition Bridie Moran of Westport TidyTowns was recognised as a SuperValu TidyT owns Hero for 2012.
